Following accountancy training John McLaren entered loss adjusting in 1984 for a national practice in Liverpool and received training in the handling of a wide variety of domestic and commercial claims. John subsequently specialised in larger theft losses and fraud investigative work and was successful in prosecuting and repudiating various high value claims. In 1986 John gained his ACII qualification.

Following the hurricane in 1987, John was asked to open an office for a national practice in Sevenoaks and dealt with many of the larger losses before managing an office in Essex where he was responsible for developing the business and training staff. In 1993 John completed his Masters degree at Lancaster University Management School and following a period of IT consulting work John returned to the Loss Adjusting profession in 1996 working as a Senior Adjuster in London.

Having acquired greater experience of commercial losses John joined the "in-house" loss adjusting team at Royal & Sun Alliance and during the following eight years he dealt with a wide variety of property damage and business interruption losses for SME's and Global Clients, as well as handling High Net Worth claims. During this time, John gained valuable experience in all aspects of the claim handling process and further developed his technical expertise and carried out risk improvement surveys. John was also involved with the specialist investigation of numerous major losses and gained further invaluable experience in his role as a Fraud Champion and as a member of a nominated commercial Catastrophe Team for the South of England.

John moved to join a firm of specialist High Net Worth Adjusters where he dealt with major domestic losses for a range of Insurers.

John retains over 20 years experience as a Loss Adjuster with particular expertise in the handling of High Net Worth, Commercial Property and Business Interruption claims and is looking forward to working with the team at Criterion.
