Prior to commencing his Loss Adjusting career, Christopher was employed by Municipal General Insurance in Guildford to handle and process domestic Insurance Claims on their behalf. During this time, Christopher was approached by an independent firm of Chartered Loss Adjusters in London to commence training with them in 1990.
Christopher initially dealt with domestic property and small commercial claims. Christopher assisted in setting up an office in Woking, Surrey in order to provide extended coverage across the South of England. Whilst continuing to deal with domestic property Claims and commercial business, Christopher received extensive training in the handling and development of Antiques, Fine Art and Jeweller’s block claims. Since this time Christopher has chosen to specialise in these areas of Insurance, as well as in the High Net Worth sector.
In 1992, Christopher assisted with the formation of a new independent Chartered Loss Adjusting business with one of the senior partners of his previous employers, with the specific intention of dealing with High Net Worth, Antiques and Fine Art, as well as Jeweller’s block claims.
In June 2001, Christopher was keen to undertake a new challenge and he set up in business as Criterion Adjusters Ltd. The Company continues to specialise in High Net Worth, Antiques and Fine Art claims, however following the arrival of additional, highly experienced staff, Criterion now also handles property Subsidence work and commercial claims, as well as General Household business. Christopher also regularly undertakes Insurance Surveys and Risk Appraisals on behalf of instructing Principals.
Simon Willsmer commenced his Loss Adjusting career in 1980, at which time he dealt with a wide variety of household and commercial business. In 1988, Simon assisted in setting up a busy, London adjusting office where, in the main he dealt with commercial property and High Net Worth business, together with Fine Art losses, including handling the Phillips and Bonham’s Auctioneers accounts.
Simon moved to join another firm of City based Loss Adjusters in 1991, where he continued to deal with High Net Worth, Fine Art and Antiques Claims, as well as Liability and Commercial property issues. Simon gained additional experience in these areas of adjusting during the course of the following eight years and he qualified as a full member of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters in 1999.
Five years ago, Simon was selected to manage a team within the Verification and Valuation department of the United Nations Compensation Commission, based in Geneva, Switzerland when he dealt with high value Claims submitted by individuals and businesses for personal and commercial property loss/damage arising following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Simon has also been providing technical advice and information when valuing high value items and artefacts as well as bloodstock for a Panel of Commissioners and their legal team.
After having renewed his contract with the United Nations on several occasions, Simon decided to return to the UK with his family.
In early 2003, Simon Willsmer joined Criterion Adjusters Ltd in order to provide additional support and experience, not only in existing areas, but also when handling Subsidence and larger commercial property claims, as well as Liability issues. This support and the further technical ‘back-up’ that Simon has provided will undoubtedly prove beneficial, not only to Criterion, but also to instructing Principals.
Having left University with an Honours degree in History, Jonathan initially pursued a career in education and then as a rainforest expedition leader. Jonathan subsequently opted to pursue a career in Loss Adjusting in 1991 whilst living in Devon where he received comprehensive training in the handling of domestic and commercial claims. Jonathan made swift progress with professional studies and examinations and was elected to the Senior Council of the local Chartered Insurance Institute in 1993, prior to moving to Bath in 1995 in order to pursue a career advancement opportunity. Jonathan is a qualified member of Associateship of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters.
During the ensuing years, Jonathan gained further considerable experience in both domestic Household and commercial claims and frequently undertook Surveys on behalf of Instructing Principals. Jonathan now has specific expertise in handling High Net Worth losses and complex commercial claims. Jonathan rose to the position of Senior Adjuster within a busy Bristol Adjusting office during which time he was required to train fellow colleagues and staff from Instructing Principals offices. This resulted in Jonathan forming strong relationships with both Brokers and Insurers alike.
In early 2002, Jonathan was requested to open a new office in Bristol for his employers. Within a short period this proved to be most successful with a rapid expansion in staff numbers under Jonathan’s guidance. During this time whilst managing this new office, Jonathan was responsible for dealing with major losses and he also specialised in High Net Worth, Subsidence, Pre and Post Risk Survey work. Jonathan was involved in auditing all claim files and was the nominated adjuster selected to deal with various prestigious accounts, such as The Royal Bath & West Showground.
In January 2006 Jonathan opened a new office for Criterion Adjusters Ltd in Bath and is particularly excited at the prospect of joining this progressive and expanding business. Jonathan is keen to continue to offer the best possible service to existing and new principals and will bring invaluable experience and expertise to the company.
After gaining his degree in history at Bangor University, Bob Eccles began his loss adjusting career with Mclarens Chartered Loss Adjusters in 1991, commencing employment at their Grimsby office. He initially started with domestic property and travel claims, and later widened his experience by dealing with commercial claims for a variety of leading insurers. During this time he completed an external MA in history at Leeds University. Bob worked out of a number of branches before settling in their Stockport office. In 1996 he joined GAB Robins, Chartered Loss Adjusters, handling commercial claims at their Manchester office. Whilst with Robins, Bob dealt with a number of national account clients, and handled business interruption, public liability and engineering claims, as well as commercial property losses.
In 2001, Bob joined Esure in Manchester, initially dealing with motor claims before joining the projects team. Here he undertook User Application Testing (UAT) and co-wrote the claims systems user manual. Bob also created a new fraud team and wrote the process for fraud handling. In 2003 he joined Crawford Loss Adjusters in Stockport and specialised in claims for high net worth clients, predominantly handling larger domestic and commercial claims, as well as being the nominated adjuster to handle Chubb claims throughout the North West.
During this career that now spans eighteen years in the Insurance sector, Bob Eccles has gained considerable catastrophe response experience, visiting flood and storm claims in South Yorkshire & Hull in 2007, following previous involvement in Scotland, Maidstone, Carlisle and Stratford upon Avon.
In January 2009 Bob joined Criterion to extend their presence to the North West, continuing his specialisation in the handling of high net worth claims.
Following accountancy training John McLaren entered loss adjusting in 1984 for a national practice in Liverpool and received training in the handling of a wide variety of domestic and commercial claims. John subsequently specialised in larger theft losses and fraud investigative work and was successful in prosecuting and repudiating various high value claims. In 1986 John gained his ACII qualification.
Following the hurricane in 1987, John was asked to open an office for a national practice in Sevenoaks and dealt with many of the larger losses before managing an office in Essex where he was responsible for developing the business and training staff. In 1993 John completed his Masters degree at Lancaster University Management School and following a period of IT consulting work John returned to the Loss Adjusting profession in 1996 working as a Senior Adjuster in London.
Having acquired greater experience of commercial losses John joined the "in-house" loss adjusting team at Royal & Sun Alliance and during the following eight years he dealt with a wide variety of property damage and business interruption losses for SME's and Global Clients, as well as handling High Net Worth claims. During this time, John gained valuable experience in all aspects of the claim handling process and further developed his technical expertise and carried out risk improvement surveys. John was also involved with the specialist investigation of numerous major losses and gained further invaluable experience in his role as a Fraud Champion and as a member of a nominated commercial Catastrophe Team for the South of England.
John moved to join a firm of specialist High Net Worth Adjusters where he dealt with major domestic losses for a range of Insurers.
John retains over 20 years experience as a Loss Adjuster with particular expertise in the handling of High Net Worth, Commercial Property and Business Interruption claims and is looking forward to working with the team at Criterion.
